Not being satisfied with this answer myself i began experimenting with alternate methods of creating stained maple floors.
Maple stain colors for floors.
They have been reproduced using digital production techniques.
That usually makes them unhappy but the reason is that the grains in both maple and hickory flooring can be very hard in spots and very soft in others.
Over the past couple of years we have experimented re done mistakes and have been able to produce some very nice stained maple floors that have cherry walnut or dark mahogany colors.
The customer and his designer made it clear that the stain color and the satin sheen level was expected to be even and uniform over the entire floor area.
Once the sanding is done then you need to thoroughly clean the wood.
Always test stain on a hidden area of the wood to verify desired color.
If you decide to screen your maple floor or use grits finer than 100 you will need to pop the grain.
